any one tell me how to provide authentication for custom menus,
what r the steps i have to follow to disable menuitem......
what s the use of start up code.......?

Please give a fuller example, include copy of existing code. Which menu item do you want to disable? Is it a 'magic' item or a call to user written code? If the later, look at using 'roles' and setting the item's 'menu security / item roles' to the roles that you have defined as being applicable for your users.
